National Education Foundation
About National Education Foundation (EF): The year, the AAUW Nation Education Foundation is celebrating it’s 50th year. One of the women directly responsible for EF was Frances Concordia, a graduate from the U. of MI and a graduate holding a PH.D. in Bus. Adm. from NWU. Although she worked for GE for six years, she later left her job to devote herself to her family and community issues. She was directly responsible for obtaining the land that our Washington headquarters stands on today. EF provides educational opportunities for women and girls through higher education grants, International Fellowships, American Fellowships and community action grants. These Fellows are available to speak to the branches.
In December 2007, our branch members sold 301 boxes of grapefruit. Combined with our other donations to EF, our branch donated a total of $900 to AAUW National Education Foundation.
In 1958, EF received tax exempt status whereby the first endowment was given in the amount of $5,000. The EF fellowships and research grant programs continue today because of her work and many women like her.
Last year the California branches gave over $500,000 to EF.
Nationwide, $4 million was given out in 2007 by the Foundation for advanced education.

Fullfilling our Mission:
AAUW Atascadero branch supports its national Educational Foundation (EF) which is named in our by-laws. A team effort of hard working and dedicated members make this support possible.
Below are pictures of our "2009 Pink Grapefruit Team" unloading our supply of "Texas Pinks" to sell for $15.00 a box as a fundraiser for EF. See branch newsletter for details regarding where to buy your grapefruit to enjoy during the holiday season. They are delicious!

Last year, the "2007 Pink Grapefruit Team" unloaded the boxes of grapefruit, stacking boxes in a warehouse, and preparing to start a town-wide sales campaign.
